The NIA Relationship Framework

Writer: Simon ZrydSimon Zryd

A simple framework for choosing who actually deserves your time in your “Network.”

Too often, we chase vanity metrics in networking—titles, follower counts, or status symbols—only to realize these connections don’t lead to meaningful relationships. Instead, the most successful network builders focus on who truly aligns with their goals, values, and energy.

That’s where NIA comes in:

🔹 Nurturing – Do they actively build relationships and give as much as they take? Great connections aren’t just transactional; they’re about mutual support and growth.

🔹 Intentional – Are they purposeful in their actions and networking? The best relationships don’t happen by accident. You want people who show up, follow through, and engage meaningfully.

🔹 Aligned – Do they share similar values, ethics, or business philosophies? You don’t have to agree on everything, but relationships thrive when there’s fundamental alignment in how you operate.

Putting NIA into Action:

  1. Make a list of the last 3-5 people who left you feeling energized after an interaction.

  2. Analyze what they have in common—are they givers? Are they reliable? Do they align with your vision?

  3. Use NIA as a filter to assess new and existing connections. Does this person nurture relationships? Are they intentional in how they network? Are they aligned with your values?

Most people will keep networking aimlessly, hoping something sticks. But the real magic happens when you’re strategic and selective about who gets your time.

What do you think? Would this help you refine your approach to networking? 🚀
